1You tell us

2We rule out
Anything that breaks what you said.
3We score, then check
Points on six things, then a shake of the dials.
What the score is made of
Eleven things, each rated out of 10 and each with a weight. Only the ones your search looks at count, and their weights share out the 100 points.
What you asked for

Short city runs are hard on a diesel, the filter clogs. Petrol or electric suits you better unless you also do regular highway trips
How sure we are
Checked 48 more times with the dials moved up to 30 percent.
Stays first in at least 90 percent of those runs and leads by 3 percent or more.

A search at ₹25.00L, asking for Advanced safety (ADAS) as a must-have, 360° camera as a nice-to-have, mostly city driving. Each dial is how much that thing counts; beside it, its share of the score. Only the balance between dials matters.

The whole story
Read it
- Budget: a little grace, 2 percent over, never more. A pick that uses it says so.
- The budget rating is a full 10 from 85 percent of your budget up. Below that it falls away fast, so a cheap car has to win on merit.
- Every one of these is rated out of 10 on its own. Each has a weight. For your search the weights become shares of 100 points, and the score is the sum of share times rating, out of 100. On a pick, each line shows the points it earned of the points on offer for it, so the lines add up to the score.
- A must-have has the biggest weight, 18. Two of them outweigh budget, equipment and size together (36 to 27.333333333333332). You said what matters, so it matters most.
- Nothing asked for? Then it is the most car, best equipped, close to your budget.
- Reliability, Running costs, Service, Resale value, Safety record: each counts like a must-have (18), on independent evidence only. No record yet, a rating of 0, and the card says so.
- No budget named? We ask that first, and search at the typical budget here meanwhile. Every other question is asked only if the answer would change your picks.
- Checked on 10 October 2026 over 2,920 searches: the best match led the next car by about 8 percent of its score, typically; a quarter were decided by under 3 percent; the best match changed in 15 percent when one dial moved by a quarter.
- Not perfect yet: the budget rating is flat above 85 percent; size stands in for how much car you get; the dials are our judgement until buyers' choices give us better.
- Where every figure comes from: how we work.
