The way into a Cooper S at Rs 44.45 lakh, and it is no stripped car: the same 204 PS engine and 7-speed automatic as every Cooper S, a panoramic glass roof, 17in alloys, the round 9.4in OLED screen, wireless charging and parking assistance. What the Rs 5.95 lakh step to the Classic Pack buys is the head-up display, Harman Kardon audio and the comfort extras, so go in knowing this one is cloth seats and plain mirrors.
Worth the stretch if you will live with the car daily: the head-up display, Harman Kardon sound, keyless comfort access, auto-dimming mirrors, a heated sport steering wheel and Vescin-and-cloth seats, over the Essential's spec, for Rs 5.95 lakh more. The engine, roof and screen are the same.
Rs 2.85 lakh over the Classic buys John Cooper Works sport seats in Vescin, electric adjustment with driver memory and the Active Seat, and the choice of 18in wheels. Nothing mechanical changes; this is the comfortable Cooper S rather than the quick one.
A Favoured Pack dressed for Oxford: a full Union Jack roof, unique 18in dual-tone alloys, black JCW seats, crossed-flags badging and Oxford door sills, in Indigo Sunset Blue or Chilli Red, for Rs 2.25 lakh over the Favoured. Same engine, same features underneath; this one is about the look, and it is sold in limited numbers.
The Cooper S that drives differently: adaptive suspension, John Cooper Works sport brakes, the Steptronic Sport gearbox and JCW wheels, with the Favoured's cabin in JCW cord-and-Vescin seats, in Legend Grey or Midnight Black only. Rs 2.65 lakh over the Favoured Pack at Mini's own launch price, and the one to have if the drive matters more than the roof.
The John Cooper Works Pack in the 1965 Monte Carlo colours: Chilli Red with a black panoramic roof, 18in JCW Lap Spoke two-tone wheels and the rally-tribute graphics, for Rs 1.60 lakh over the JCW Pack. A limited run, and the only way to have the JCW Pack's suspension and brakes in red.
Thirty cars: the John Cooper Works Pack in Legend Grey with Chilli Red roof, mirrors and wheel-hub details, 18in JCW Lap Spoke two-tone wheels and GP-inspired graphics, for Rs 3 lakh over the JCW Pack. Nothing faster than the JCW Pack beneath it; what you pay for is the rarest Cooper S Mini sells here.

We have not reviewed the Cooper S itself yet. This is Mini ownership generally, which applies whichever of its cars you buy.

Why there is no overall score
Scores are our reading of published, independent evidence, not the manufacturer's, and we deliberately publish no single overall rating: a car can be excellent on safety and weak on resale, and one number would hide that. How we score, and how makers can respond.

How the Mini Cooper S is sold
The engine question is one you can skip here: the Mini Cooper S is sold exactly one way, so there is no fuel or gearbox to weigh up before you start on trims.
- What fuel does the Mini Cooper S run on?
- Every one of the 7 Cooper S variants on sale is a petrol, from ₹44.45L for the Essential Turbo Petrol AT, ex-showroom. It comes only as an automatic, so there is no manual variant to save on.
Prices are ex-showroom and features follow each maker's official material. Data updated . Verify current prices and features with a dealer before buying.
