Powertrain
2.0 Multijet II Diesel (4x2): An old-school big-hearted diesel that pulls hard from just above idle and makes long drives easy, and Jeep's own figure of 17.1 km/l is genuinely good for something this solid. The nine-speed automatic suits it far better than the manual, which is a long-throw thing you notice in traffic

What the Sport Diesel AT costs on the road
The price above is ex-showroom. With road tax, registration and the rest of the charges counted in, the Sport Diesel AT comes to ₹23,83,738 on the road in Ahmedabad and ₹27,35,778 in Kochi.
Road tax is set by the state rather than by the maker, so where you register decides ₹3,52,040 of what you pay for the identical car. Of the 25 states we can price this variant in, Gujarat, Arunachal Pradesh and Mizoram are level at the lowest, and Kerala comes out highest. You pay it where you live, so take this as a reason to check the quote you were given, not as a way to save money.
Comprehensive own-damage cover is on top of both figures: it has been market-priced since 2007 and moves with the insurer, the cover value and your no-claim bonus, so no honest single number exists for it. Budget for it from real quotes.

The full story
At ₹21.99L ex-showroom this is the second of 14 Compass variants by price, ₹4.00L above the Sport Diesel MT. The same Sport features start at ₹4.00L less as the Sport Diesel MT; the extra here buys the Diesel with the 9-speed torque-converter auto. Stepping up to Longitude (O2) from here starts at ₹1.64L more and buys SOS call and LED fog lamps among 13 additions. That price is a different engine or gearbox though: keeping the Diesel with the 9-speed torque-converter auto, the Longitude (O2) starts at ₹25.70L.
More about the Sport trim
A genuinely spartan way into a Compass at Rs 17.99 lakh, and it drives like the others: same 170 hp diesel, same frequency-selective damping, alloys. What you give up is most of the features. No sunroof, a 3.5in cluster, four speakers, an inflator kit instead of a spare wheel, and nothing connected. Since October 2026 there is an automatic too, at Rs 21.99 lakh: the cheapest automatic Compass, and the Rs 4 lakh buys the 9-speed gearbox plus cruise control and auto hold, which the manual Sport goes without. The next rung costs Rs 5.64 lakh over the manual, so go in knowing this is a big step down, not a small one.
Jeep Compass Sport: the questions people ask
Price, on-road total, engine and what this trim goes without.
- What is the price of the Jeep Compass Sport Diesel AT?
- ₹21.99L, ex-showroom. That makes it 2nd of 14 by price, ₹4.00L above the Sport Diesel MT.
- What is the on-road price of the Jeep Compass Sport Diesel AT?
- Expect ₹23,83,738 in Ahmedabad and ₹27,35,778 in Kochi. Road tax is set by the state rather than by the maker, so the identical car costs ₹3,52,040 more at one end of the country than the other. That is the ex-showroom price plus road tax, registration and the rest of the charges, across the 25 states we have verified. It does not include comprehensive own-damage cover, which every insurer prices differently.
- Which engine and gearbox does the Jeep Compass Sport Diesel AT have?
- The Diesel, 170 PS, with the 9-speed torque-converter auto. The maker's figure for it is 17.1 km/l.
- What features does the Jeep Compass Sport Diesel AT get?
- The features worth naming on this trim: Cruise control, Airbags (6), Electronic stability control, All-wheel disc brakes, Tyre pressure monitor and Rear parking camera.
- What does the Jeep Compass Sport Diesel AT miss out on?
- The Longitude (O2) above it adds SOS call, LED fog lamps, rear fog lamp, touchscreen (10.1" against 8.4") and 9 more, for ₹1.64L more. That is the cheapest way into the Longitude (O2) though, on a different engine or gearbox: keeping this one, it is ₹3.71L more.
- Is the Sport the right Compass to buy?
- That depends on where the value sits across the whole range rather than on this trim alone, and we work it out variant by variant on our Jeep Compass which-variant page. The short answer: pay for a step only where the features it adds are ones you would actually use.
