Best value for money: Techno+, at ₹80,000 over the Techno. No other step you pay for is better value for money on the price list.

Renault Duster

Above that there is one upgrade left, Iconic, at ₹1.70L over Techno+. Nothing sits above it to weigh it against, so take it because you want what it adds, not because it is next.

How this is worked out
Every step below compares the cheapest way into one trim with the cheapest way into the next, then weighs what the money buys against what it costs. No opinion is added on top, and nothing is rounded in a trim's favour. Read the full method.

What the road does to this ranking

Where you register can change which step is the best buy here. Techno to Techno+ asks the least money for each point of kit it hands over on the price list, but in 4 of the 25 states we can price this ladder in, road tax puts Authentic to Evolution ahead of it: in the state where that gap is widest, the badge asks 23 percent more for each point of kit.

Which states, and by how much

Every price on this page is the showroom's. States charge their road tax as a share of that price and step the share up in bands, so a trim that carries a car past a band boundary is charged for the whole boundary. A ranking worked out on the price list is not automatically the ranking you pay.

Take the badged step, Techno to Techno+: ₹80,000 on the price list, and anywhere from ₹85,600 to ₹1,23,380 on the road. Gujarat and Mizoram are level at the lowest, and Kerala comes out highest, across the 25 states behind that range. Every other step moves by its own amount, and that is what can reorder them.

Authentic to Evolution comes out ahead in Meghalaya, Bihar, Kerala and Arunachal Pradesh. Where that gap is widest, even the best badged step asks 23 percent more for each point of kit it hands over.

Just one state's rates will ever apply to you, so treat this as a reason to price the ladder where you actually live rather than as a reason to change your mind about the car. Comprehensive cover sits on top of every figure here and is inside none of them.

Renault Duster: the questions people ask

How many Renault Duster variants are there, and what do they cost?
11 variants across 5 trims, from ₹10.49L for the Authentic Turbo Petrol MT to ₹18.49L for the Iconic Turbo Petrol AT, ex-showroom Delhi.
Which Renault Duster is the base model, and what does it cost?
The Authentic, from ₹10.49L ex-showroom Delhi, is where the Duster range starts. Kit you get even here: 6 airbags and ESC. What you give up against the top Iconic: no ADAS, no 360° camera and no blind spot monitor, and 22 more.
Which Renault Duster is the top model, and what does it cost?
The Iconic tops the range at ₹16.99L to ₹18.49L ex-showroom Delhi. Over the base Authentic it adds level 2 (full suite) ADAS, 360° camera and blind spot monitor, and 22 more.
Which Renault Duster variant is the best value for money?
The Techno+. It costs ₹80,000 over the Techno, and no other variant you pay extra for is better value for money on the price list. You get hill descent control, front parking sensors, blind spot monitor and wheel size (18" against 17"), and 1 more.
Is the Iconic worth it?
It is the only step above the best-value one, so nothing higher up competes with it: ₹1.70L over Techno+ for 360° camera, level 2 (full suite) ADAS and ventilated front seats. Worth it if you specifically want that kit, hard to justify otherwise.
Which Renault Duster variant has 6 airbags?
Every Duster has 6 airbags, including the base Authentic, so there is no need to move up the range for them.
Which Renault Duster variant has the full safety kit?
Iconic, from ₹16.99L, is the cheapest trim carrying every safety feature the Duster offers at its best level. Anything above it repeats that kit rather than improving on it.

The Evolution Turbo Petrol AT, at ₹14.49L ex-showroom Delhi.
