What Assam charges, by fuel
Road tax is the one-time tax a state charges when a new car is registered, worked out as a share of the ex-showroom price. It is most of the gap between the price you see and the price you pay.

Worth knowing before you sign
- The costliest line to cross is ₹20 lakh ex-showroom: petrol cars just above it pay ₹80,000 more road tax than cars just below, because the 14% rate applies to the whole price, not only the part above the line.
- On the Toyota Innova Crysta GX Diesel MT, Assam is 11th cheapest of 25 states: ₹1,18,320 over Arunachal Pradesh and ₹1,75,916 under Karnataka.
